CONTEST

 MarginalHacks is having a contest for the best plugin and best theme written by May 31st, 2006. The prize is $150 for the best plugin, and $100 for the best theme. Prize payment will be made via paypal.

Rules

The prize money may be split amongst entries if there is a tie or are notable second place entries. The full amount distributed will not be decreased.

The album author (David Madison) is not eligible for entry.

The entry date may be extended if there is a lack of reasonable entries, as determined by MarginalHacks.com.

All themes submitted after April 9th, 2006 qualify for entry.

All plugins submitted qualify for entry (even those before April 9th!)

All submitted plugins and themes become the property of MarginalHacks.com.

What should I write?

Here are some suggestions:
  1. A slideshow theme (or plugin?)
  2. A plugin that shows a box of exif info on mouseover.
  3. Plugins for handling movies, animated gifs, pdfs, etc..
  4. A plugin that saves get_xy in a file/database cache for images that haven't changed.
  5. Watermarking plugin. (Talk to me first, I may be developing one)
  6. A plugin that aids in the myriad of choices for picking directory thumbnails.

What if I can't program?

Writing themes only requires graphic design skills, thanks to the simmer_theme tool (in downloads).

We are also happily accepting donations to help cover prize money costs.

If you have a great idea for a theme or plugin that you truly are unable to create, consider mailing to the mailing list - perhaps someone will author it and split the winnings with you. :)

Entry is easy, simply submit a theme or plugin. Make sure I will be able to contact you by email in case you've won.
